Obesity is underated in this country. ?

For all you parents out there here is a shout out. You won't let your kids go to the sports bar because it is smokey. You won't let them go outside when it is lightning. You make sure they don't do that marijuana. You make sure they don't cuss. But you don't look at obesity as being a problem. I am not saying all parents are like this and I am not trying to offend anyone. I am just saying that obesity should be handled by good parenting considering it is the main cause in the major diseases. Agree or Disagree.

i agree.

when i was a kid back in the 70's, there was maybe a small handful of obese kids in the entire school. today when i drive home from work and pass two schools, i am astounded at how many fat kids there are.

i blame part of the problem on feminism. before feminism, most mothers were home to supervise their children and not allow them to binge on snacks and fatty sugary foods. they cooked healthy meals and wouldn't allow their kids to loaf around playing video games or be on the internet for hours.

but now that most mothers work and aren't home when their kids get home from school, she's not there to tell them no. plus, she's also too tired to cook and takes the easy route and buys take out food.

what i'm most grateful for is i grew up when kids didn't have video games or computers. kids had to rely on each other for entertainment so we'd be outside throwing a football around or having bike races or playing sports.

how many kids do you see out playing anymore?

Inactivity and too much junk food is the problem. Anybody makes their kids work anymore. A have a nephew that has never mowed the lawn or shoveled snow; my sister says that he is too smart for that type of work. He plays video games much of the day, but never joined in any athletic sport.

BTW. "The Scorpion" Cleaning the plate is not the problem. When I child refuses to finish his/her dinner, but is allowed to snack on junk food afterward, is the major cause of obesity among kids. My neice never finishing her food on her dinner plate, but is later allowed to eat an entire bag of microwave popcorn seasoned with butter and Skittles. It is easier for her parents than to make her sit at the dinner table and eat a proper meal.

I too feel bad for kids whose parents let them eat whatever, or cave in to tantrums with a pack of Twinkies or trip to McD's.. It is bad parenting, and only ends up hurting the child and disadvantaging them later on.

However, no matter much your parents might screw you up, at some point in a person's life they have to take control and make the changes they want to see in them self. You can be justified in pointing fingers, you can be correct in placing blame elsewhere, but in the end the individual has to make their own changes.

Agree. Part of good parenting means promoting physical activity, nutritious food, self-monitoring and recording food intake , slowing the rate of eating, limiting the time and place of eating, and using rewards and incentives for desirably healthy behaviors.

Get outside, and enjoy! That's what we kids did. Not much TV viewing, or ANY computer game playing - we hiked, swam, skied, skated, biked, played volley ball, etc. Still do - because we learned as kids to enjoy the great outdoors!

I agree, people are feaks. Wear your bike helmet, no smoking in the bowling alleys, put a bandaid on your cut but have no problem with their kids eating twinkies and mcdonalds all day. When I was a kid I didn't wear a bike helmet, rubbed dirt in my cuts and hung out in sports bars with my dad and I'm fine, I'm also not fat because I was out doing things and not inside protetected.

Two working parents, latch key kids and the T.V. has become the parent. My generation did not have T.V. when we were kids. We had outside and play and exercise. I didn't get fat until I retired. My metabolism slowed down.

I agree it's the parents responsibility but should not be "regulated" by the government. Also the "game" the government plays by changing the numbers to produce an epidemic is just a bit suspicious.

Too much inactivity, too much food, it's that simple. Parents who force little kids to "clean their plate" are making a huge mistake in training them to overeat.

Agree.

I agree but how does this fit into the "Politics" category?

I care less what other people do with their kids. Its NONE OF MY BUSINESS. I worry about my own and I don't need any damn Lib telling me how to raise my kids or my daughters raising their's.....

Every person should know what you have outlined here out of reason is true, those who would 'disagree' with your statement are true morons and there is no help for them.

You shouldn't worry so much about "offending" anyone.
I think it's offensive that parents are prisoners of their own home and all they do is sit on their fat @$$es and never take their children out, they make their children also prisoners of their own homes and the only safe thing to do is sit and stuff your fat face with zero nutrient foods,
the only going out entertainment they seek is going out to eat and feed their fat faces.

People are in fear of going outside their home and seeking pleasure in the free things in life. They are the dead of spirit and they are giving it to their children.
How many of you fat parents out of pure laziness and fear don't allow your children to go out.

Parents, YOU ARE TO GO OUT WITH YOUR BABIES AND CHILDREN EVERY SINGLE DAY AND BE ACTIVE AND EAT ONLY WHAT IS NECESSARY TO SUSTAIN.

The other day I was out the park and a fat guy with a little kid couldn't even stay at the park with her for a few minutes, couldn't even get off his lard butt to push her in the swing though she begged to play and he demanded that she leave after only a few minutes.

I was OUTRAGED.

Fat parents, don't abuse your children because you are a fat, lazy apathetic slob.

There is more to life than TV and stuffing your face. A LOT MORE.
Cut your grocery bills in half, save your money and start dreaming about going on nice vacations with your family and planning big outing adventures.
