bmi(body mass index) of greater than 30 is the definition of obesity (in the UK anyways, in the states i think they might be more lenient, i think its 35 over there though not sure)

although it is currently under debate whether this is a good measure of how overweight one is.
the bmi is related entirely to weight and height. therefore a boybuilder may end up catagorised as obese even though clearly not. but for most people it is a relatively good guide to use.
