Pre teen child obesity, Is this a form of child abuse and should the parents/guardians be prosecuted?

well you seem to have opened a can of worms here.... if were going to go into over weight children we should also ask the question about under weight (for reasons of the child not eating due to TV and Magazine preasure) or illness. Again so hard to prove that this is neglect.

What about the parents that subjct there child to passive smoking, surly this is just as bad if not worse. after all most children dont have a say when it comes down to passive smoking but when it comes down to here son/daughter have this desert, they can say no thankyou. Mine often do if they not hungry.

the reason why many children are over weight is not because of the parents soley it is also down to tv ads and in my case the fight against grand parents and other children. many times do parents say no to turn arround and find that the grand parents have given the child the sweets any way.

More to the point have you ever been shopping in the UK. 1 bag of apples containing about 6 will cost at least 拢1.20, veg and fruit both priced so high and will not last the week. yet a bag of chips can cost 98p for a massive bag, and last a month or more.... on such a low income like much of the UK, which are you going to buy.

if the govenment want overweight children and adults to change they need to change the prices of food that is good for you, so that people can afford it. i do my best to make sure that my children get the '5 a day' but with the prices so high it is very costly.... no matter if you have 1 or 5 children it makes no differance to the cost.

so who realy should be prosicuted. and as for the refusal and cost of NHS (UK) tratment why should the be different rules for over weight people compared to smokers and alcholics.... art they all in the same danger????

Yeah, I do think it's a crime, and they should be fined to pay for the health care the fattys are going to need later on in life.

Abuse, not enforced and not intentional. Certainly neglect to say the least where welfare should step in.

depends if they do it intentionally, if it was illegal it would be too hrad to prove it
Some children are overweight due to other phycial problems or medicines, but if it's the parent's fault for providing nothing but junk food, that's actually a wonderful idea.....
