What is your opinion on the Obesity gene? |
excuse for being fat or plausable reason? What do you mean THE obesity gene? I have three. That's my excuse anyway... Seriously, I think there may be something in it. I don't see how genetics can determine so much about us and not at least consider that this is genetic too. People of all sizes and shapes have all sorts of eating habits. Do all slim people eat and drink moderately and sensibly all the time and take enough exercise to stay slim? Or, is it "just the way they are made"? All fat people are said to eat too much and exercise too little but the propensity to become fat could well, I think, be genetically determined. We accept that many "good" characteristics are genetic e.g. intelligence, but have problems with ones considered less socially acceptable - like crimininality and obesity. The beautiful use the excuse that it's in their genes (!) so why not the blubbery too? Fat chance. I think it's an excuse, every1 has a level of control over how fat they are. I kinda of agree. Me and two brothers a big and overweight. My husband does not have a weight problem and our two kids are like sticks. Just kidding but they are very slim. There are disorders where people eat uncontrollably, but they usually die from it at an early age. I just think people need to learn self-control when eating. It might be real, but even if it is I think it's only a very small percentage of over weight people that have The vast majority of over weight because they don't get enough exercise and eat too much of the wrong types of food - simple as that. If the Gene is real then it has been a part of humans for 1000's of years - why is only causing all these problems now? We all have genetic tendencies to different things but don't always know what these are unless someone in the family or ourself gets sick. These are just challenges we face. We just need to accomodate these challenges and try to build our health accordingly. |
