Can an omenectomy be done to reduce obesity?

I keep reading more & more about what the omentum is & was just wondering if it has been considered as a possible bariatric remedy. Have any studies been done? What about reducing the omentum rather than a complete removal?

The omentum in the most obese person upon whom I have operated did not weigh more that three pounds.
It is removed at the time of ovarian cancer surgery. I have seen no weight loss benefit from its removal.
