This questions springs off my other question. Obesity views & opinions.?

One of my friendly answers to my smoking question pointed to obesity as the next thing to be knocked out so to speak. Smokers & non smokers both have valid points & concerns. My question is, What business is it of someone if someone is fat, overweight or obese or not. How is that of any concern to anyone other than the person who is in this shape?

There are millions of Americans with health problems. Not just smokers and the obese. Our rates are going to go up regardless. The problem isn't about who gets the healthcare. The problem is with how the government handles the whole situation. And with Bush in office, you can bet that it's not getting any better. Insted of pointing the finger at the people using the healthcare (including yourself), vote in the next election...
From a medical stand point it is unhealthy to be over weight. So I think the only people that should be concerned with how much so one weighs is the person who is obese and the doctor.
It is my business because if that person has a heart attack and goes to the hospital and a lot of people do this and it becomes an epidemic like it has then my health insurance premiums go through the roof to cover their excess which is why many Americans can no longer afford insurance. Then those Americans who can't afford insurance when they have their heart attack my tax dollars pay their bill because they are on Medicaid. So one way are the other fat folks have their hand in my pocket.
Maybe it's none of our business if people want to be fat but it's going to be very hard rendering aid to them when they can barely fit through the door or if it's too hard for paramedics to carry them on a stretcher or if the power goes off and they can't climb a set of stairs to get to their house, it's a health issue, and my opinion is some people have the option to watch their weight but they just neglect themselves, but as i said it's none of my business, i'm in good health.

And people, stop blaming the government for everything, if you are fat and if you smoke that's not the government's fault, God!
Wow Nietzsche you sure are mercyless!!!
Anyway.....
People can suffer from heart attacks whether they are obese or not. A workaholic is just as much at risk as an overweight person. Computergames are proven to dammage your health in some ways. Why not try to do someting about that too?
It's time we stop discriminating others. We all have our issues even you Nietzsche. Maybe next you also want to control what people believe or how many children they have.
Maybe some of you control freaks should just move to China (or North Korea or some such place)so you'll learn the value of freedom and choice.
Childhood obesity is becoming epedimic in our country. We are beginning to see heart attacks during the teenage years because of poor diet and exercise. Giant food corporations are making billions of dollars by selling high fat and sugar foods that are loaded with other harmful chemicals. They package their poisionous junk in bright packages and create cartoon characters to be their spokesmodels. They schedule their advertising campaigns around children's programming on TV. There is not a single law that forces them to behave responsibly or requires them to pay for damages their reckless behavior causes. We know the consequences of their actions are devestating to our children, but we have not yet taken action. If anyone speaks up, they are quickly shouted down by liberal idiots who claim the companies are protected by "freedom of speech". We, that is YOU and I personaly are paying the price for this state of affairs. While the companies get rich and their top executives skim the huge profits off the top, the rest of us foot the bill in higher healthcare and insurance costs. Our taxes increase in an attempt to pay for healthcare for the increasingly fat nation. We should and WILL take action. Afterall there are speed limit laws because driving too fast is an endangerment to one's self and others. We have laws that regulate the claims that can be made in drug advertising. We have strict laws that govern the advertising of tobacco and alcohol because they are dangerous substances. The Camel cigarette company was forced to stop using their character "Joe Camel" because he was obviously an attempt to sell cigarettes to children and young teenagers. Perhaps it is time for us to look at Tony the Tiger as well? Physical fitness should be made more of a priority at our schools. Pop machines and vending machines that have candy are already being removed from our places of education. That is proof positive that these substances are harmful to children and that some things can be done to help the situation. I say weigh everyone when they come into a restaurant or grocery store. Then limit their options to appropriate choices for them. Hate me if you want to, but mark my words the day is coming when we will no longer allow self destructive behavior to mascarade as freedom at the expense of our citizens.
The business really is that healthy people pay a premium for their healthcare (if they even can afford it) because of the unhealthy practices of some individuals thru smoking, no exercise, obesity. I don't care if someone is unhealthy, but I don't see why I have to pay $1500 a month for quality health insurance when that $1500 is actually being used to pay for health issues of others. Will the care be there when I need it?
