I think its because in the older days children had chores to do everyday they werent allowed to just sit in front of a TV set watching movies or playing video games but thats my opinon
Government cheese is fattening.

well america one can get a good meal in many places. plus with governemtn money, you can eat like a king.
If someone is really poor, they buy what is the cheapest things in the grocery store. Macaroni and cheese is cheap, but really fattening. The same with all of the things you can buy inexpensively. The fat and calorie content of boxed mashed potatoes, frozen pot pies, etc. is absolutely astounding!
Fattening food is generally cheaper and more filling.
Also, poor people can't afford to go to Curves or Gold's Gym.
Because malnutrition in the United States is not marked by a lack of food. We actually have more food than we need... farmers destroy entire crops for subsidies. The problem is quality of food. The poorest Americans can not afford a balanced diet. Expensive but necessary foods like fresh produce and dairy are prohibitively expensive. It's not expensive to eat in this country, but it is expensive to eat in a way that is healthy. Hence obesitiy is an issue with the poor not because they lack food, but because they lack food that is nutritious.

If you want to try to feed a family on an income of less than $30,000 a year and do it well, like 50% of the population has to do, then you can claim that poverty isn't a problem. I doubt you do.
