Is depression a cause or a symptom of obesity?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060703/ap_o...

could be both. you could a.) be depressed, and eat because that makes you feel better, or b.) you could be depressed because you are obese and wonder how you got that way.
I would say either
It could be that the depression has its roots in low blood sugar - something that happens to everybody every day, but for some it can hang around.

Low blood sugar is also one cause for obesity. That's how I got mine.

For basic information on hypoglycemia and a bit about its precursor condition - hyperinsulinemia, check out www.hufa.org.

could be either
I think that depression leads to bad body image...which also leads to eating disorders, in this case overeating disorder, which causes obesity as long as the person doesnt purge what they eat.
I think so..
