Should people who abuse their bodies (alcohol, tobacco, obesity, drugs) be required to pay a "health tax"? |
Does non-compliance to medical plans of care justify reducing access to care or limited intervention? No, I think taxing an individual is not the the way to go. Too many external factors that cannot be proven come into play. Instead, tax the product. I have no problem heavily taxing things that are used purely for self-gratification (ie: tobacco, alcohol) and reducing taxes on things people need like gasoline. NO Jeff it does not. If you are a health nut that is fine. You live in America and can do as you see fit. I pay for my insurance and my bills when I go to the doctor. I smoke, I am a nurse. It is a choice that I can make because I have the right to make that choice. We have enough govt. in our personal lives and business now. The last thing we need is more. No, we have the freedom to do as we wish here in the US. You can go live in a socialist or communist govt for that. We do not need anymore govt intrusion on our personal freedoms. Worry about yourself and quit judging other people. Heck no! We pay enough taxes! there are already taxes on alcohol and tobacco. If you are going to punish people financially for risky behavior you will have to lump in: people who don't wear condoms, people who play sports, skydive, rock climb, mountain climb, swim, surf or drive. Why don't we all just wrap ourselves in bubble wrap and never leave our homes? oh yes i think so , they should be paying double , because if a person knows that drinking and smoking will kill them in the long run and they still do it then they are crazy. smokers and drinkers should be made to pay everything themselves i bet that they would stop then NO! Each of us abuse our bodies simply walking out our front doors daily with pollution the way it is today. |
