Do you think we (America) as a society, condone obesity by telling people to be "who they are"? |
Other countries criticize the US for its weight epidemic. We also know that there is a serious problem here, but its seems as though many therapists and psychologists are helping their clients to learn to love themselves the way they are. Not solving the weight issue. To me, this is simply advocating obesity. Do you agree? To a certain extent. keep in mind, we're America. land of bigger and better things. on one hand you have people telling everyone that being fat is unhealthy and dangerous, life threatening even. and on the other you have people saying stuff like, forget what other people say, be yourself and be proud of it. We like to have everything our way in America, We want our cake and eat it too apparently. Obesity to me, like most people, denotes laziness and an inability to control oneself or lack of self image. Could be a medical reason they are obese but for the most part, obese people have no self control and ARE lazy. otherwise why would they be 30, 50 100 pounds overweight. America's gotten too soft over the past decades i think. it's all about holding hands and being politically correct so as not to hurt others feelings. We've grown accustomed to this mentality and now whenever people say things "mean" it's an attack on these people and should just be forgotten about. carry on. I'm 28 now and when I look back on high school or middle school days, i can remember getting into fights and stuff like that and walking abotu from them with a few bruises and a lesson learned. nowadays, you hear about middle school kids raping each other oor bringing guns to school and I wonder what the hell went wrong in a decade or so. Talk to older people and they'll tell you how things 20 years ago were so much worse when they were kids. Eventually we'll get to the point where we'll see dead bodies on the street and be like, eh. my opinion is that America has gotten too soft too liberal in it's demeanor. Call someone fat and they'll sue you for harassment. so rather than be HONEST, people will be fake and make others feel better than they should and save themselves from a lawsuit. I think that there are a lot of factors that lead to obesity, but honestly you can't patrol the whole country for fatties, all you can really do is make sure you yourself exercise and encourage your family to do the same. Much as we condone stupidity. I can think of so many things that are worse than being overweight. Eating disorders because of people who think like you, addictions, murderers, child molesters... A little fat is nothing in comparison. No i think we condone obesity by the way we live because everyone rushes these days so we eat things that are compatible with our schedule which is fast food and other unhealthy products. in some respects yes I agree... but, I also think with all the growth hormones and unpronouncable chemicals put into our food and water.. it is no wonder why obesity is an epidemic. Some of the choices are to blame also. an alternative medicine/ natural products consummer I think that obesity is a disease just like alcholism, or smoking. We need to treat the disease, and not the person. We also need to be more accepting of people just the way they are. Sometimes there is no controlling how we look also because we are born to larger parents, and it is in our genes. We all need to just accept who we are and the people around us and just love one another. |
