Is endocrine (i.e hormonal) malfunction a common cause of obesity?

Is endocrine (i.e hormonal) malfunction a common cause of obesity?

The above answer regarding Leptin is a good one. Leptin may play a role in obesity, but we don't know in which percentage of cases, or which came first, the chicken or the egg.

There are other hormonal disorders that *can* cause obesity, such as Cushing's and hypothyroidism. These are considered to be rarer causes, and weight will return to normal once the underlying disease is treated. The vast majority of people who are obese have seemingly no medical cause.
ummmmmmmm........................ i think obesity is due 2 overeating of junk foods with excess of fats n carbohydrates.
So i dn't think tht obesity is commonly due to endocrine malfunction
It's a cause. Whether it's common or not is a matter of debate. Leptin is a hormone that can cause obesity. Was the person obese because of too much Leptin? Or did the fact that they ate so much require them to produce more hormone to store the food?
