Why do so many Americans not care about their health? Obesity in adults AND children are at record highs? |
I'd really like to hear some intelligent, educated answers. Its so sad to see so many people not take care of themselves. Obesity is at record highs. Alcoholism is pushing new record highs. Drug use in teens is at an all time high. WTF? And no, I don't want to hear about these folks being uneducated or they don't know any better. Drugs, alcohol and fatty burgers have been around for decades and longer, why now are they all coming to together as one massive problem? Why don't people care about the one thing that will get them through life: thier own body? As the world becomes more advanced, we move less and less. We have become very sedentary. I remember not even that long ago, we used to walk everywhere close, now if it's more than a block we hop in the car. We sit at computers all day (I know not everyone, but a lot of us), come home and watch some T.V. or play a video game or two with the kids. Also we have gotten into the bigger is better mentality. Look at restaurants, fast food and otherwise, they advertise the most food for your buck. It is cheaper to get the bigger full of fat meal then it is the salad and a drink. If you think about it a couple decades ago, a child's happy meal would have been considered an adult one. And now a lot of fast food chains have even upped the kid meals. We start our kids out young on a lot of food and we make food something special instead of what it's supposed to be. A life resource. Some of this is changing, little by little, but we have along way to go. Candy is another thing, you used to get a 1 oz candy bar and be satisfied and now 1 oz is a joke. Now you expect 7-8 oz or bigger. We need to get off our big butts and go outside. Get a bike and ride with the kids. We need to make fitness a priority before it is too late. were all depressed and dont think about what we are doing to our bodies Until its too late. We do everything in excess here. |
