What are the effects of soda on the rise of obesity in the US? |
National Soda Drink Association's rebuttal to the effects of soda on the rise of obesity in the United States I can't find the link, but I saw a guy on the Colbert Report that was talking about this. In the mid 80's, soda companies started using high fructose corn syrup instead of cane sugar. The obesity rate in the US has steadily risen since then. The amount of soda consumed has changed as well. It used to account for about 9% of caloric intake, but now it accounts for 22%. The Straight Dope's take: http://www.straightdope.com/columns/0409... Source(s): www.straightdope.com I have wondered about the soda companies using high fructose corn syrup instead of sugar from cane. Other countries still use sugar. Portion size must matter, too. When you see little children with large amounts or sweet soda given to them and no water, it's small wonder that obesity comes at an earlier and earlier age. I never gave my children soda when they were very young, and not candy or other processed foods or sweets. They are both small young ladies. One is 5'2" and 90 lbs., the other is 4'10" and 100 lbs. They have had soda, but they always drank water. They were never addicts of soda. Yea its cus the U.S. uses high fructose corn sirup and that sh*t makes u fat. unlike Mexico where they use real sugar, but yea the u.s. has alot of chemicals on their drinks to make em cheaper to make |
