What has changed in the past 2 decades that has made obesity a major problem in today's youth? |
Fast food has been around for about a half a century. What made obesity a problem today? I know it's not just the fast food, but it could also be many other things. fast food duh and junk food parents kids are left alone with junk food more and people go out to eat ALOT more Video games and cable TV. Both are FAR more common than they were 20 years ago, and both suck the fitness and health right out of a kid. i think the growth of fast food outlets and within the grocery stores . Also the increase of families having cars play a large part. when i was young i most definiteley did more walking Im not sure I think now the food is much larger than before, the food gets bigger and bigger, like the new burger king burger with four freakin slabs of meat in there, I think people are lazy now to cook sometimes as well, its easier for some to just go out and buy it, then prepare something healthier at home. sitting on their buts mainly, no really how much time do kids sit wathing TV or on the computer or playing computer games compared to 20 years ago Hmm........Let's see........It used to be 5 channels of t.v. or outdoor play. Now, it's REALLY long video games, 80 channels, a PC that EVERYONE has with internet that can literally entertain FOREVER. Also, global warming makes the outdoors too hot and fast food companies have more selections making it less sickening to eat and burgers are getting massive. Not having physical education for all 4 years of high school for starters. The invention of the computer and all that it entails. Young people would rather sit around playing video games than be outside burning up calories. And the third reason is what is served on today's high school campuses. . .soda, pizza, and other high calorie foods and beverages. |
