Do you agree with cutting out snacks at school or should they return physical education to help with obesity? |
The schools for elementary kids from K-4 are losing their snacks and the lunches are less advertising to the kids. I agree that we need to monitor out kids food intake but not the government especially not at school. Instead of taking away, add physical education to all grades for all kids that can exercise without any medical restrictions. There should be more fruit and veggie snacks. When it is my turn for snacks I give out goldfish, pretzels and fruit. I also add a sticker for each kid for fun. My child does not have daily phys ed which shocked me. They are lucky enough to have it weekly. Apparently there is no money for this and not enough parents have made it a big deal in the community to make a difference. I had P.E. everyday as a child and I went to public school, so I do not see what the deal is in most of the public schools these days. I understand that art, music and phys ed are the first to go in school budget cuts, all of which are very beneficial to a child's development! Yes, I agree with cutting out unhealthy snacks and adding phys ed would help in curbing the U.S. obesity rate. What would really help is the change in diet and exercise at home. And parents that lead by example, not "Do as I say, not as I do!" little kids should get their snacks, just make them run around more...they got tons of energy anyhow.... I am pleased about the no junk food thing. However, it seems rather Socialist in its pattern. HEALTHY snacks are ok, kids need their energy and need a boost during the day. What they need more of is turn off the TV and EXERCISE. And phys-ed in school, as well as outside recess, is a must. these are both very good ways to get rid of obesity I think that snacks should be allowed in school, but only healthy ones. Cut out the soda, candy bars, chips, cookies, etc. and give them whole juices, milk, granola bars and fruits. In addition, I think physical education should be implemented in every school. Those kids get only 30 minutes of outside play per day. That's it!! They can't go outside and play after school because everyone is afraid they will get snatched. (A VERY valid reason.) School time is the only time most get to run around and play. They aren't only burning off energy, they are burning off calories!! |
