Childhood obesity...whose fault is it? |
So I just read this article about parents suing food companies, like Kellogg's, because their kids are obese. I am of the opinion that it the the responsibility of the PARENTS to influence their children to lead healthy lifestyles. It's not Kellogg's fault if I decide to buy my children sugary food, and therefore it is not their fault if my child is obese, but my own fault. Are people in general just prone to blaming their problems on others? Opinions? Yes, finally someone else who gets it. I agree with you 100%. I only have myself to blame if my child is over weight. That is like the parents who dress their children in skimpy cloths and then blame the clothing manufacturers when their daughters are permiscuous or raped. parents are too busy feeding too much junk....no time to cook from scratch It is the fault of the parents. Are they incapable of reading the dietary and nutritional information on the packaging of the food? Suing Kellogg's for obese children is like suing Jack Daniels for alcoholism. People can make CHOICES!!!! get a grip woman being overweight is not that bad Truthfully I think they just want to blame someone and if they think they can cash in on it even better for them. It is disgusting. You are ultimatly responsible for what you and your children eat and barring any health problems if your children are obese it is the parents fault. This being said my mother and brother were obese my other brother and I were not. It is also due to portions. My family and I go out to eat maybe once or twice a month the rest of the time I cook home cooked meals. My daughter and I are both in the normal range on our BMI and yet my husband is overweight. In this case I think it comes down to control as my husband eats much larger portions than normal. I can't really do much about that however if it was my child I would limit their portions. If the child is insistant lock the fridge. I am not advocating starving them just not letting them overeat. If you cannot handle it on your own have the child get counsling and see a dietician. If you let your kids overeat you are slowly killing them. i agree with you, if you feed your children sugary, fattening cereal for breakfast, don't get mad when they become fat. They didn't force the food down your kids mouth, you gave it to them, so its your fault! |
