We have an epidemic of obesity in society today. Obesity usually starts in the home as a child.? |
A lot of our children that become obese will stay obese through adulthood. How is it possible for a person who has been obese since childhood (and is now an adult) to change their "bad habits" that they have had for so many years? Do you think it is possible? Yes I do think it's possible to change. I think it has to start with a change of attitude, and a permanent change of eating and exercise habits. "Diets" won't help. Eating habits must change to focus on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains (don't completely eliminate any one food group). Daily exercise is a must. Do something every day so that it becomes routine. Walk, bike, swim, exercise class, etc. Vary it so that it doesn't become boring. A visit to the doctor be sure you're in condition for exercise is a good idea, but almost anyone can walk safely. We as adults should be modeling these good habits to keep children in our lives on the right track. Remember, it's a lifestyle change, and it's a permanent improvement. Obesity is due to two reasons. One, more food than required by the body and two lack of exercises. Avoid intake of excess food and fat, take lots of water and do the simplest of the exercise, walking everywhere as for as possible. Climb stairs, swim etc are also good. Mostly very fat people are sluggish and lazy. Of course it's possible. Consult your doctor, who may refer you to a nutritionist, and form a diet plan. Do not go on a crash diet, or set yourself up for failure. Reduce portion sizes, eat with a little common sense, and introduce more exercise into your day. I think people can change their eating habits. What I see many times, is a person not have a "Taste" for certain foods, especially veggies. Chips and French Fries are great, but, Broccoli and Okra are not. I remember when I loved Deviled Eggs. Eat them all the time and one day may taste changed and they not so great any more,, but, I do like them. I notice this with many foods over the years. A favorite may become OK. Something I never wanted, may become a favorite. Years ago, Broccoli was OK with a cheese sauce. Today, it probably my favorite, just steamed and straight. So, people can change their eating habits a stop eating junk food and begin love love a well balanced diet of meat, vegetables and fruits. Some do well as Vegetarians and pass on the meat. But, we have to make an effort to enjoy more nutritious foods and not concentrate on the Junk. In time, our Tastes will change. Go here and "Read"; http://www.mypyramid.gov/ On left click; "MyPyramid Plan" fill out the questions and "Read". You maybe surprised how many calories your body really needs. It a lot of well balanced foods. People can not understand! But, if you not eat, your body can store fat, especially when it junk food. Exercise also helps burn the calories and produce HDL (High Density Lipoproteins) the rid the body of LDL (Low Density Lipoproteins). http://cholesterol.about.com/cs/choleste... Of course its possible. Easy, no. Possible, yes. Ever hear of 'free will'? |
