i dont think a wii will help people loose weight. now a days people need more than just a little bit of exercise that the wii provides. people need a healthy diet and lots of exercise and maybe some weight loss program or something. and to answer your question, i really dont think they made it for the obesity problem. i think they made the wii so that they could compete against the ps3 and 360 and to make some money. and so far they are doing pretty good. also to just make an innovative console that people enjoy.
The Wii was created to create profits for Nintendo. Plain and simple.

The physical activity was incorporated to get a wider demographic to buy the Wii (and subsequent games).
