SHAQ: Is anyone as pleasantly surprised as I am at the work Shaq has done with childhood obesity? |
I have to admit that I have never been a Shaq fan. I thought he was brutish, childlike and did not work hard. That all changed by watching his childhood obesity project television show over the last two weeks. Oh sure, some parts are contrived and obvious, but what really has come through for me is his sweetness and concern for these kids. I think this is a big point of light in this day where athletes are otherwise in the news for bad behavior. Interested to hear other people's thoughts on Shaq and this special. Yeah, it's nice to know that someone of such a high status cares so much. Those 6 kids will remember him for the rest of their lives. I don't think that those kids will lose weight because they do specifically what Shaq said; I think that the mere fact that he cares about them will inspire them to change their lifestyles individually. Did you see last night's program? I did. It really bugged me how those kids started ditching the program and messing up the gym and going back to their old ways as soon as Shaq left. Later, when Shaq found out, he scolded everyone, and the kids all started crying, and Shaq hired a really mean trainer, and they instantly shaped up. The least they can do is listen. It's like Steve Nash is teaching you how to dribble or Kobe is teaching you how to shoot, and you're not listening. Shaq could just give up and go off to Disneyland if those kids aren't going to start showing some character. I don't think Shaq is having much success right now, but at least his motives are in the right place. He can only tell the kids what to do and how to do it. If they don't want to listen, there's nothing Shaq can do. Well I havn't seen the anyone laying off the corn syrup yet, and I havn't noticed children in our neighborhood getting thinner so I guess I would say no. Wow and Shaq is helping with this?! That's funny! ^_^ same here nah i'm not pleasanlty suprised, but i am laughing a bit...always been a shaq fan...so this is just somethin else to watch for me...sad that childhood obesity is nationally televised tho... I am impressed at Shaq's concern about childhood obesity enough to do something. And I think its interesting that when Shaq chose to help the world he saw this as something important to do. Tells me not only is he a big man outside but a big man inside too. Good job Shaq. My thoughts. |
