Obesity: Is it a disease? |
I'm doing a research paper on this subject. So far, I'm unable to find CREDIBLE sources. This subject is related to the pharmeceutical companies and money. Can anyone help me? I do believe it is classified as a disease now. You might want to check the Centers for Disease Control website. I'm not sure what constitutes a "disease"-- some people may argue that obesity is a lifestyle choice, but other non-arguable "diseases" (like diabetes or cancer, for example) can also be brought on by lifestyle choices, and can be treated or cured (some might argue that "diseases" are something you're afflicted with beyond your control that you cannot reverse). Technically, yes, I believe it is. Sometimes it is, a lot of times it's not! Look the word up in W iki. I can't give you a credible source on this subject unfortunately. But in my own experience struggeling with obesity, I believe that it is a disease, my body accumilates weight differently then other people. I have a lower energy level, and I have extreme cravings. I believe in the way alchololisim is a disease so is obesity. I believe I am addicted to food. When I see it on T.V I will crave what I see, and refuse to eat anything else until I get what I want. I think we should have rehabs for weight loss, that work on all the points that effect a persons weight. And I also believe insurance companys should be more willing to work with an individual on overcoming their obesity for the bennifit of their future. As well as the pocket book of the insurance company. Myself |
