Is Obesity Child Abuse?

I just read something online that posed the question, "Should obesity in a pregnant woman be considered child abuse?" I got very offended by this. What's your opinion?

That is a harsh statement! So is there opinion that only aneroxics should have babies, so they'll finally start eating?
I read on your other post that your OB/GYN called you obese and that is just wrong!
In my opinion all these people that are spitting out this stuff, should take care of their own issues before they start pointing fingers and get into things they don't have a clue about!
Keep that head of yours up, girl! Your time is coming soon!
thats insane.
I do not understand how your personal body weight would be considered child abuse. I am assuming the jerk who made that comment is as skinny as a toothpick. Some people can not help it. With both of my kids i was a bit hefty while pregnant. They are normal weight for their age and are very healthy. Just like smoking and drinking weight is an issue but a personal one. not something for someone to decide if its right or wrong.
if you are over wieght it is your business. just because you like to eat that extra donut does not mean you are a bad person it just means you like donuts. tell everyone to mind their own business and have a baby if you want.
OMG, I swear what they won't post as child abuse these days...it's just ridiculous. I'm curious how that is deemed child abuse? Gaining alot of weight in your pregnancy does not necessitate a large child nor does it contribute to childhood obesity in the child later on. Here is what should be considered child abuse in a pregnant woman. NOT EATING!!! At least you know the obese pregnant woman is feeding herself and thus, her child. The anorexic woman is feeding neither and will either give birth to a still born or very underweight baby. Those mothers should be reported the minute their child is born. Sheesh. Some people really are idiots.
No...maybe a CHILD that's obese could be child abuse because it shows neglect of the child's health by the parents, but a pregnant woman's weight shouldn't matter.
i woudnt say is child abuse, but i will agree with the fact that it is not heathly and should be avoided.

it is ok to gain weight while pregnant and i totally dont see anything wrong with being a little over what is noramlly expected during pregnancy.

i think it is best for mommy to be and the child if one eats healthy during pregnancy.

but yes every woman has a right to a child dispite their weight
