Is obesity a promoting factor of cancer?

Most definetly! A recent study over a 16 year period, involving over 900,000 participants, has concluded that there is a definite higher risk of getting cancer if you are overweight. Specifically this was related to your Body Mass Index (BMI) whereby if your BMI is greater than 25, then you fall into that higher risk group.

The particular study referred to here was conducted by the American Cancer Council.

Also, the following are interesting figures, from statistical information gathered over the years, that there is a genuine relationship between being overweight and cancer .

Three percent of cancer deaths in Australia are attributable to BMI>25 3 . More recent figures in Europe attribute 5% of cancers to being overweight 4 . A large cohort study in the USA estimated that 14% of all deaths from cancer in men and 20% of those in women could be attributed to overweight and obesity.

The relationship is such that there are advertising campaigns being run in Australia, and possibly other countries, to make people more aware of this very problem.

There have been inconclusive studies suggesting that it might. However . . look around you . . athletes get cancer (Lance Armstrong and Scott Hamilton) and health conscious people get cancer (Farrah Fawcett, Sheryl Crowe) . . and I wouldn't consider any of them obese. Also, when you think of people you know who have cancer . . how many of them are obese and how many of normal weight? And, than there are children . . I havn't met one child with cancer who is obese.

As in everything that we do . . moderation again is the key . . don't smoke, drink, or eat excessively and exercise regularly.

I never heard that obesity promoting factor for cancers ,but it's well known that obesity is behind
Heart disease & Diabetes.
Note : No body knows what causes cancers but they believe that smoking causes Lung cancer.
but it's better to have the proper weight to your age & hight.
