Patanol (eye allergies medication)?

Is Patanol an antihistamine or what exactly is it?
Is it better to take Patanol on a daily basis to cure conjunctivitis (red eyes) due to allergies or does it even matter? Basically what am asking is if it is better to take it on a daily basis or taking it once in a while wouldn't make a difference.

Patanol is an antihistamine. It is also a "mast-cell stabilizer" which inhibits the release of histamine (which causes the "allergic" reaction). It should be used on a daily basis in order for you to benefit from it fully. However, if you have just seasonal allergies, you can start it 2 weeks before your allergies begin and continue the treatment until the end of the season. If your allergic conjunctivitis is minimal and sparse between flare ups, you may use it as needed for the red eyes, but you will not have optimal results with this form of usage. Hope this helps.
