My baby woke up with one swollen eye, slightly red, but by noon, it was no longer swollen. Allergies?

It is most likely an irritant, a bug bite, or infection. Allergies in the first year of life are unusual (not impossible, just uncommon).

If the symptoms don't return, it was probably just an an irritant, such as dust, lint, or whatever. If you notice any drainige, particularly if the baby has matted eyes after a nap or a night's sleep, then it is probably an infection which will require a prescription antibiotic eye drop or ointment.

In general though, for swelling I would recommend cool compresses, as warm washcloth or compresses increase the blood flow to an area and therefore may increases redness or swelling. Source(s): Pediatrician
that sounds right to me. one of my eyes would always be red when i was having an attack. i have had allergies all my life since i was a baby too.
more than likely
Maybe or he/she may have had something on his hand and rubbed his eye
Good Luck
It could either be allergies or maybe your baby got bit by a mosquito or a little bug and it just irritated it....It's gone now so that's ok....just go buy some benadrly for however old your child is and if something like that comes up then give it to him/her and see what happens. If it continues ask a doctor. I found out what works the best is get a warm wash rag and put it on their eyes...they wont like it but it will help get the swelling out of anything.......
Maybe something bit him/her like a spider or flee? Or he/she poked themselves in the eye.
