What's best medicine for Allergies? Eyes and nose running away? |
Help! I am miserable. I don't know what to take. I took a Clairitin yesterday and it didn't do squat. I turned to Chocolate covered Tootsie rolls..I just discovered them. I can't breathe. I'm sneezing 5-7 times in a row. I even sneezed two at the same time! Another one started before the first ended. Now that was uncomfortable. I have a sore throat, like someone scraped off a layer then stuck a golf ball in there with cayenne pepper on it. :) My nose runs constantly, I'm congested, my eyes are just pouring out water and feel swollen, and a headache from Hell. Nose very itchy. My son was diagnosed with Mono a week ago, but I hope this is only a cold or allergy and a coincidence. I do not have fever like he did, though I was quite tired all last week. A drowsy type med is ok. I'm not leaving my big blue couch. Have you ever been to the pharmacy when you feel this way? You stand there and scan the whole isle full of 'stuff' and can't think or make sense of it Best bet is take some benadryl around the clock, every four to six hours. It works very well, better than claritin for most people and the best part is you'll sleep like a baby and if you're asleep you're not going to miserable. You could also get some sudafed too for the congestion, but if you're nose is running like that, I don't think it'll do much for you. Sometimes just a plain saline nasal spray will help with sinus pain if you spray it right up into your sinuses. The sore throat is from junk dripping down the back of your throat, try some plain tylenol for that. If the pain gets too bad to swallow use some chloraseptic spray, it'll numb the throat for about 15 minutes which is great if you're trying to get to sleep. If Claritin doesn't work, try other types of over the counter meds like Reactine or Aerius to name a few. I find that Claritin doesn't work for me either--you really have go out and try a few brands to see what works best for you. You could try Benadryl...that stuff is works wonders for me and totally knocks you out in the process. Talk to the pharmacist or you doctor too--they might have some better choices for you. Hope this helps!! Try sudafed. I love it, it works great. They have different varites for different symptoms. Hope you feel better. Claritine D is much better than just claritin. D is for decongestant. It is the same ingredient that goes into Sudafed - namely pseudoeuphedrine. Also, Allegra D and Zirtex D are pretty strong. Afrin nasal spray will open up your passages, but be careful not to get addicted to it. The best thing for eye allergies is Opcon-A over the counter. Patanol is good too, but its RX only and not as strong. As a preventative measure, you may want to rinse your nose with 5% saline solution. Have you tried eliminating dairy from your diet? I suffered my whole life with asthma/allergies until I stopped consuming dairy and started taking small doses of natural ephedrine...this is the one I use: http://www.naturalkiosk.com/proddetail.p... Also...explore this website: http://www.mercola.com/2005/nov/8/a_natu... I wish you the BEST !!!!!!! I've been in the Alternative Medicine field for many years now, and offer individualized consultations: http://www.kasamba.com/wellness-coach... Forget all the OTC meds in the regular pharmacy. Find a product containing the ingredient quercitin (if I spelled that right!). It prevents the histamins from ever releasing at all. After taking it for a few weeks, I noticed that not only was I no longer having allergy symptoms, but food tasted better than I remember it tasting in years. You do have to take it daily though, as a preventative measure. If there is no health/herbal/alternative foods type of store in your area, you can find it online. You can get it alone or in combinations with other supplements that work in conjunction with it like vitamin c or zinc. personal experience |
