I have severe allergies today with my eyes swelling. I've taken Benadryl twice today. What else can I do? Go in the house, turn on the air conditioner and get a air cleaner. Keep the outside air outside. Put cold compresses on your eyes and try to relax. You need to have your primary care doc refer you to an allergist. He will do testing to determine exactly what you are allergic to and this will allow him to devise a personalized treatment plan for you. Benadryl works well for some people. Others need a prescription med (sometimes more than one). Until you can get in to see the allergist, you might want to try Visine Allergy Eye Drops. This might help the swelling. You can use them more than once a day. Instructions will be on the bottle. You may also want to get an eye cup and some simple saline solution to use to wash your eyes out. My husband works in a very dusty environment, and he keeps his supplies with him and washes his eyes several times per day. This allows him to work without goggles. Ask you pharmacist about the proper way to do an eyewash. Please do consider the allergist. This is his specialty and he has knowledge your primary care doc doesn't. I suffered miserably from allergies for years until I found a competent allergist. Now I follow my treatment plan and the misery is gone. Hope this helps, luv. I know how miserable you must be. RN Worked for an allergist for several years. |
