Eye infection due to allergy? |
My eyes are swollen up like a balloon. what can I do that will reduce the swelling . It is on the top eye lid and below. The Dr. called it sinusitis. He gave me antibotics and took them but the next day they swelled back up again. It a sporn in our sand that is causing this bactria. Went to ER last nite and another Dr. gave me benadryl. Per. PX it says not to take this with anyof the meds I am taking now which is clariton..What can I do to treat the swelling From what you describe, it could be a few things. Do they itch? Is it both eyes, or just one? Are they red? Are they red all over? Does the redness go all the way up to the iris (the colored part), or is there a clear ring around the iris? Is there any discharge or goo coming out of your eyes? If there is, is it clear, or is it colored? Has this ever happened before? Itchy, watery eyes that are both red and itchy and are driving you mad could be allergy related, especially during high-pollen times of year, or if you've been touching an animal or food source to which you are allergic. If this is the case, there are several over the counter eye drops that treat allergic conjunctivitis -- be sure they say "for allergies" on them. If there is yellow goo coming out, if they aren't particularly itchy but are more sore, and if it is more one eye than the other, and if you have a mild sore throat, it is likely bacterial conjunctivitis, or "pink-eye". This needs several days of antibiotic eye drops or ointment to be treated. If you don't get these, it will most likely go away on it's own -- but will take much longer, and you will probably give it to a lot of other people in the mean time. It could also be viral conjunctivitis -- it is very hard to distinguish the two diseases, but bacterial tends to be more in one eye and viral tends to infect both eyes and be more itchy with less yellowy discharge (but there is a lot of overlap). If you got something in your eyes that you are allergic to, like pollen or grass from mowing, that could account for the swelling. If you had some kind of trauma and got cut in the area, that could also account for it. From what you are saying, my bet is allergic conjunctivitis; sinusitis usually comes with a lot of yellow nasal discharge and facial pain, dental pain or headache, and can often be diagnosed with a CT. If it is sinusitis, the antibiotics will need several days, not just one day, to work. You can bring the swelling itself down somewhat by putting Ice and cold water in a ziploc bag, wrapping it in a damp washcloth, and putting that on your eye. DON'T put ice directly on your eyelid, as this could severely damage the skin. It sounds like you might want to see an ophthalmologist (an eye doctor), or maybe an allergist, but whatever you choose, be prepared to treat for several days. Good luck! -Julie I used to be an optician I spent many years looking at eyes u know as well as I do how important your eyes are I'm not and eye doctor but go directly to one and take the antibotics that the Dr. gave you keep taking them they might swell back up but your body must fight what's going on or else you can lose your eye sight don't mess with it or you'll have thick lenses or even no vision! I worked at Pearle Vision for many years |
