Why do your eyes swell up when you have allergies?

Why do your eyes swell up when you have allergies?

SWOLLEN EYELIDS ARE A RESULT OF ALLERGIES
JUST LIKE A RUNNY NOS OR COUGH - VISINE ALLERGY WORKS FOR ME...........IT'S REALLY A PAIN, ISN'T IT???
It's fluid, as I sit here with very swolen ones, we found mold and it's not pretty.
edema.
Its basically an overreaction of your immune system. Allergy symptoms occur when your body thinks something is dangerous to your body when it really isn't. When spring time comes around, of course pollen is EVERYWHERE and your body looks at pollen and other natural substance as dangerous, doing what it has to do to 'protect' you. Thus, the swelling occurs to try to close your eyes and prevent foreign object from entering. The tears are there to flush away those 'intruders'. Also, the runny nose occurs when your body produces mucous to reject the foreign objects (pollen, dust dander. etc). The mucous also causes you to sneeze by causing a tickling sensation in your nose. I know, it's no fun but the most effective medications put you to sleep because they're histamine blockers (anti-histamines). Unfortunately they target ALL histamines...the ones that fight off foreign invaders, AND the ones that keep you awake and alert....I know your pain.
