Watery eyes, 15yo cat. Related to anything other than allergies? |
Ming, my cat, is just short of 16 years old. The last couple of monthes have been really hard on her. We can't figure out if she suffered trauma, has epilepsy or what. No blood level concerns. An ultra-sound showed a small anomally in/on her liver. Now her eye tears all the time. Related ?Any ideas? Is she squinting her eye too? She may need to have her eye stained to check for a scratched cornea. You should take her to the vet to check. Aging. Your cat is short of 112 years old. System is falling apart. I have a cat that has the same problem. I took him to the vet to get out checked out, I got three different prescriptions at different times. Nothing worked. Finally the vet said some cat's eyes just water. It's wasn't something that could be fixed. I was concerned because it was pinkish...vet said that was also ok. So don't worry to much about it. It's just one of those things that happens. Watery or any goo means she is sick. Its one of the things they say to keep watch for. Check her gums. You need to get her to a vet. It doesn't mean it serious, but she's sick somewhere. Like a urinary infection, and/or it from her liver. They need to give her something, don't let her suffer. Sometimes older cats are less resistant to infections so that possibility should be checked with your vet. Older cats do sometimes get cataracts which in theory can case watery eye although I have never seen it personally (Of course there are many things I haven't seen). It would be a good idea while the vet is checking for infection to ask them to take a look and make sure she does not have an eyelash turning backwards which can irritate the eye a lot. Some cats do develop a sore or irritated place on the inner eyelid too so that should be checked too,. Which all comes down to a vet trip. Even if it is allergies and it may be if her system is run down from a rough year the vet may be able to suggest a vitamin supplement or something to help build her resistance back up so she is not so succeptible to allergies and such things. 16 is a good respectable age for a cat so obviously you have taken good care of her but I have known a cat who lived to 23. 50+ yrs of owning and being owned by cats You know she is getting on in years and things do start to happen. teary eyes could be an allergy or a scratch on her eye, best to check it out with a vet, don't let her suffer, please. |
