What is the best treatment for osteoarthritis in dogs?

My 9 year old bulldog was given previcox for treatment of osteoarthritis. His symptons were improving but now have taken a turn for the worse. He is in pain and I have used all of his meds. The vet won't be available until Friday. Is there anything I can give him over the counter untill then for pain?

I cant find anything for over the counter Hun sorry but I found this website which does give some very good help for different drugs to try if yours isnt working. Sorry!! Do you have an emergency vet that could maybe give your dog an Injection until Friday.

I really don't know about the pain... Have you tried putting him on glucosamine supplements? They helped greatly with my old girl's arthritis, but hers isn't a very serious condition. You can actually get them at some pet stores.

You can give him a buffered asprin twice a day. Only asprin no other pain killer. Our vet put our dog on that a few years ago.

try some baby aspirin. also glucosmine and chondrotin wouldn't be a bad thing to do either. That won't help for the pain but it will help keep the joints lubricated and from deteriorating quite as fast.

Good Luck!
