I have osteoarthritis in my knees, is this in all my bones and will calcium supplements help? Calcium supplements will not help the pain of Osteoarthritis but can help prevent Osteoporosis which is a deterioration of the bone. The supplement many people take for Osteoarthritis is a glucosomine blend, this helps rebuild cartilege in the joint over time. I personally have Rheumatoid Arthritis and use a product called Limu Plus, this works great for me in reducing the pain and inflammation. Other things people have success with, to help reduce pain are Fish Oil Capsules and Apple Cider Vinigre. This of course does not reduce your need for calcium and if you believe you are low in calcium do not hesitate to find a supplement that is well absorbed by the body. Source(s): www.LivingWithRheumatoidArthri... Calcium won't help the pain, but it sure won't hurt. I believe all woman should be on calcium. What might help is a supplement Glocosimine, like "Movin On". That is an over the counter supplement, ask your pharmist about it. Take for at least a month so it has time to work. It increases the fluid in your joints. Good Luck, I know how you feel. A RA Patient most people get enough calcium from their diet, but not magnesium, which is equally critical to people with your condition. I suggest you try a magnesium supplement like Natural Calm or Natural Calm Plus Calcium http://bone-muscle.health-cares.net/oste... http://www.petergillham.com/product-line... It would be good for you to take calcium supplement but make sure to get it with the vit. D with it. Take it twice a day, not 2 tabs once a day. The body can only absorb 600mg of calcium at a time, so taking two tablets at a time is wasting your money, but you need to take 1 tablet twice a day. If you are having pain, schedule a tylenol around the clock unless you are taking warfarin or have liver problems. Glucosamine will help, just take the plain glucosamine, all the other stuff doesnt help. |
