Could this be Osteoarthritis in my knees?

I am having difficulty walking upstairs and after I sit for a long period (like at the movies), my knees are sore. Does this sound like osteoarthritis to you? If I bend at the knees it sounds kinda "gritty"sounding.

Those are the classic signs of chondromalacia patellae-a prequel to osteoarthritis. See an orthopedic surgeon.
My mother has osteoarthritis in her knee and those are her exact symptoms, the worst is that grinding sound. It makes my skin crawl when i hear it. She gets cortisone injections.
