Is there any help for osteoarthritis of the spine? |
I hope someone can give me good news. My Dr. recently told me that even though I am 44 I have the spine of a 64 year old. The pain is pretty severe and I do not want to take narcotics for the pain. She said this was my only option, that there was nothing that could be done for my back. Is this true, or do I need to see another Dr.? Know how you feel. My husband is 50 and has osteoporosis and ankylosing spondylitis, affecting the spine and other joints. There are meds outo there that they say are effective, if you can afford them. (Humira, Remicade, etc.) Indocin comes in generic if your stomach can tolerate it. Lyrica helps my husband somewhat, but it does affect the Central Nervous System, especially in the beginning. Unfortunately, there's no cure yet for these types of diseases, only treatment of symptoms. The narcotics are what provide my husband the most relief. It's the only thing that keeps him functional. Please don't suffer needlessly. Our thoughts are with you. you can get a second opinion if you want=it will likely be the same answer though=ask the Dr if you can get physio at hospital to help build up muscles on both sides of spine to protect it=good luck |
