Is HYLAN G-F 20 (SYNVISC) safe and effective for rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis?

my patient is on insulin for diabetes and has left bundle branch block. Her right knee is painful and swollen and xray showed severe osteoarthritis. Will Synvisc injection help?

Synvisc is fairly safe, but not always effective. Sometimes even with the cortisone boosters, it doesn't help. Total knee replacement surgery is a very real possibility. There are three injections to a series and most insurance companies make you wait six months between series. That's when you get cortisone boosters. If Synvisc hasn't helped by the second series, in all honesty, it probably won't.
