What is osteopathic medicine and is it covered under most HMOs? |
What is osteopathic medicine and is it covered under most HMOs? Osteopathic medicine is a more holistic approach to medicine. Osteopathic physicians are able to treat general medical conditions, but often have a good backround in the musculoskeletal system and spinal care...often times much more so than a general MD practicioner. Some do still perform spinal manipulations. I suppose you can think of them as a chiropractor with a medical degree. It is the branch of medicine which manipulates the bonesto restore structural and functional balance to the body. It is a recognized branch of medicine, so it may be covered by your HMO plan. You have to ask your carrier, if it is. |
