Is osteopathic medicine considered substandard compared to allopathic medicine?

Would people look down upon me if i were to become a D.O. rather than an M.D.? If i was working with an M.D., would he consider me lower than him?

Some might, as D.O. school has traditionally been easier to get into then M.D. school. Also, DO's residency and internship training is not nearly as competitive as that of an MD. In any medical field you will have to earn your peers respect by demonstrating that you deserve, not with a particular degree. The degree does help you get your foot in some doors though...
Honestly, I used to, but I haven't found any significant difference in primary care doctors. DVM, that's where I draw the line.
Probably not, but there are always jerks in every profession, so be prepared.

DO and MD are considered equivalent by law in the US but in real life, most people in the US have no idea what a DO is and therefore would look down on people that carry the DO name. Most DOs recognize this and therefore just put Dr. xxx in their name instead of xxx, DO as most of the MDs do.
