Milk causes osteoporosis?

shouldn't tofu do the same? in fact tofu should be worse because the protein to calcium ratio is higher in tofu than in milk. Has there been any research to prove that ONLY animal proteins cause loss of bone calcium? Just curious

Well some people say that milk protein cancels out the calcium benefit,
So I wanted to know if soy milk and tofu have problem too, and if not, why not? whats the difference between soy protein and milk protein?

Any diet that has excessive proteins can leach out calcium, not just animal proteins. But usually omnivores consume more than double the amount of protein they need in a day which acts as a sort of diuretic effect (yes, calcium comes out in urine.)

Vegetarians with low dairy consumption and Vegans have less cases of osteoporosis because the protein consumption tends to be on a near normal scale (We don't get excessive amounts as often!) That is the key.

So yes, to answer your question excessive tofu and soymilk consumption can also lead to "brittle bone disease" but most veg*ns don't gorge themselves on tofu all day long where as omnivores eat meat and dairy with almost every meal.

Wait...how does milk cause osteoporosis? Call me crazy, but I heard it helped build stronger bones, not weaker ones....

no it doent drinking milk is good 4 the body and bones and teeth so drink as many glasses of milk as possible is wonderful for u :)

no way

No it doesn't. Your point is well taken too. It's a good question to ask as follow up to that earlier question.

Sometimes, some folks just don't think things through before they say or believe something.

Yes, there is research supporting the fact that animal proteins leach calcium from the bones. See The China Study. The original research is referenced in Diet for a New America also, including data showing the correlation of milk consumption to osteoporosis on a national basis.

The leaching effect does not cancel out the calcium contained in the milk; it merely lessens the net gain of calcium.

It can be a cause of osteoporosis. Too much animal protein causes calcium to leach out of the bones.

The dairy industry likes to drill into our heads that milk is good for us, but actually it's not. It does have a few benifits, but overall it's just not good. It causes acne, osteoporosis, gas, build up of mucus, etc.

Plus it's just full of nasty stuff like pus. The pus allowance in milk in America is double the allowance in Europe. A lot of milk here would be illegal there.

Who would've guessed a site called milk dot com would be in favour of milk? Seriously? I'm sure it's not propaganda!
To get to the question, I don't know the facts about tofu or soymilk, but none of the vegan women I know have osteoporosis... Just a thought?

yes maybe ask google gosh
