Why would drinking milk cause osteoporosis or weaken bones?

i remember reading about that somewhere, but i forgot the explanation for it.

It wouldn't, it prevents those ailments....

This is made up by vegans that feel the need to justify their choice to not eat dairy. As for me, I can take milk or leave it, so I have no reason to lie about it or blindly believe whatever supports my position.

Milk is good for you. There are tribes in Africa who get 60-70% of their calories a day from milk and blood during the dry seasons. Yes, they stick the cows with sharp knives to drain the blood that they then drink. They don't actually kill the cows, they just use them thoroughly. Note also that the blood is super rich in protein, and they grow quite tall and healthy over there (where they aren't dying in wars or of malaria or aids).

Also, have you ever met a REAL farmer or farm boy? They are the strongest, most solid people you've ever met, not brittle boned weaklings. My grandparents grew up on farms and said their families would go through 8 gallons of milk a day! The reason why people in industrialized countries have osteoporosis more isn't because they drink milk more, it's because they don't do load bearing exercise enough. Load bearing exercise forces the body to build strong bones. We sit on the competer all day.

it prevents them.

The high levels of animal protein leach out any benefit of the calcium found in dairy. Since milk and other proteins are acid causing products, they break down the bones over time. The best bet to protect against this is to reduce meat, dairy, and other high sources of proteins and eat more alkaline foods such as fruits and vegetables.

Edit** I notice that I'm the only one with a source. It may be an anti-milk website but at least it has references from real doctors. This source is not making any money, they are just providing information to the public. Most sites that show positive results from dairy consumption are almost always funded by the National Dairy Board and they manipulate the studies in such a way that there will always be a positive result (this Board is obviously for profit...they know that they have to keep advertising that milk is healthy because they are in trouble.)

The protein basically leeches calcium from your bones.

That's why dairy cattle feed is supplemented with calcium (to make cow breast-milk a calcuim-rich food), and why the US recomendations for daily calcium intake are more than triple what the WHO reccomends for the general population - cuz americans eat so much ***-damned animal protein.

(Yeah, and all the science behind all the independent research that supports this is just vegan propaganda phooey. My protein deficciency must make me irrational... I'd better go suck on a cow's b**b.)

There is no reason that would happen and the only place you'll find those claims are vegan and/or animal rights propaganda sites. The scary part is some people believe ANYTHING these sites assert simply because they want it to be true.

veggie--when it comes to the food industry, there is no such thing as "independent research".

Kyle--thanks for supporting my assertion. Who do you think pays those "doctors"? The "source" is the anti-milk lobbyists and they do indeed make $$$ through sales of their non-milk products. It's all for $$$ Kyle and the rules are neither clear nor enforced. ALL factions of the food industry lies to us and that's part of why food "facts" are continually in flux.

It's written in the book "Skinny B*tch"

The consumption of dairy products may harm your health rather than promote well-being.

You often hear that milk makes strong bones and prevents osteoporosis. However, HARVARD studies suggest consumption of milk may cause osteoporosis due to interference with kidney function from excess protein.

Too much protein in your diet from meats and dairy products will leach calcium from your bones, which in turn weakens your bones.

Other things also need to be taken into consideration (i.e.) drinking lots of sodas and lack of weight bearing exercises.

.

it doesn't cause, it prevents. the calcium in milk helps to strenghthen bones.
