Osteoporosis can't really be treated as in cured, but it can be slowed. You should have a bone scan (if you haven't already) to determine the percentage of bone loss you have. My mom has osteopenia and my grandmother had terrible osteoporosis and, most of my female patients at the hospital are on some sort of meds for it as well. There is the usual calcium replacement therapy, but you must also replenish your vitamin D as well... calcium cannot be absorbed in the bones without the vitamin D. There are also some meds you can take monthly, or weekly only- depending on the severity of your condition. Also, there is hormone replacement therapy... I have seen all of these and almost 100% of the patients are happy with the treatment they have chosen with the help of their doctor. Most important, you have to keep up with these meds, don't stop taking them... you can only slow the disease's progression by replacing what your body needs. Check out these links, and good luck!
