Im an eightten year old girl and i have osteoporosis of the spine. can i reverse it? how long will it take?

i ask my doctor but shes not much help

Yes you can! They have pills you can take or even a shot that is given once a year to build the bone back up. Osteoporosis is thinning of the bone. You are very young to have this, but then again my oldest sister was born with a very bad case of osteoporosis through out her body.
Just so you can feel better she past 50 many years ago and is looking great! Still works full time and gets around just find.
AND they didn't have the cures back then that they do now.
Take others advice and talk to your doc. about this.

It amazes me the answers and questions that come up here. OK Osteo is not reversible. There are medications you can take to stop the progression of the disease, but you cannot reverse. Spondylitis and spinal inflammatory illnesses can be greatly helped now. There are also medications that can help you with bone density. The best thing you can do is see a rheumatolgist not a primary internist. In regards to suggestions to take supplements and shark cartilage, DO not take ANYTHING until your Dr approves it. Many supplements can be hurtful to some and helpful to others. Many are not FDA approved for good reason. Just make sure you speak to a Rheumatologist first.

How many Orthopedic Surgeons have told you that? You need at least 3 opinions. & start taking 1500 mgs. of Glucosimin & 500 mgs of Condroitin each day; also make SURE you take at least 2,000 mgs of Calcium daily...and be absolutely sure it's from SHARK cartledge...and that this Shark Cartlidge is from Okanawa, Japan; because it needs to be 'farmed'...and it shouldn't be from the ocean (too much mercury in the cartlidge)---& if it's from Okanawa, it's farmed. Nothing will reverse it if you have it, but it will help keep it lessened.
You need calcium to build your bones. Even the hurting lessens if I get on the calcium, G-C, therapy. If I don't take it, I'll notice the pain starting up again...& as soon as I start again, I'll notice the pain lessening...I'll actually start to feel like I can MOVE again & without hurting too!

I know you'll get people who'll say you don't need the Condroitin...and that you don't need that much Calcium, and the Okanawa sharks aren't important...don't pay attention to that. I'm telling you what is good...research it...and you'll find that what I'm saying is right. I've done lots of research or I'd never advise you of anything...bcz I'm not a doctor....& speaking of that...
Ortho. surgeons will tell you this is a good thing to do.
II met a gal who was 26 years old and was struggling to stay 'up' (gardening) with Rheumatoid Arthritis over her entire body. It's a REAL killer....there is NOTHING that helps that, but to keep moving...and pain killers (drugs).
At least with Osteo.Arth. there's a way to control it and reduce the damages. USE it to make your life better...and/or someone else's.
Blessing to you.

well you and your doctor should figure out why first.... if you don't fix the cause, then reversing it is impossible. if you can find out the cause and fix it, then reversing it is fairly simple, but will take quite a while.... if you realize that the body completely remodels its bones only every 7 years, it will take time.

I really don't think Yahoo answers is a good place to ask. I doubt many of us have medical degrees. Your best bet is to talk to your doctor. But to prevent more damage, make sure you get enough calcium. If you don't like milk and other dairy products, take a calcium supplement instead.

Go see a Naturopathic Physician, they'll help to determine and treat the cause.

Talk to your doctor. and no i dont believe there is a "cure" but maybe your doctor will have you take calcium and vitamin D supplements to prevent fractures. but you should really consult a doctor.

Then get another doctor, yes you can be helped.

follow swami ramadev's yoga exercises . any problem can be cured with them

I personally would ask a doctor.

Although I suppose asking random kids on Yahoo Answers is just as good.

i dont know but i really wish i could help yu, =) just go with your gut!!

drink milky!!!
