Can osteoporosis make arthritis worse?

i have mild to moderate arthiritis in my knees, but when i was younger i was on steroids for my asthma, i was on max dose for 4 yrs and was on and off them since then, i have been to several doctors who don't seem to be too bothered about the amount of pain i'm in when walking, but i know that prolonged use of steroids causes thining of the bones, so could i be in more pain if i have osteperosis and arthiritis? if so does n e 1 know what i can do to have this pain investigated?

The pain might be exacerbated due to the two conditions, but as you know arthritis is joint related whereas osteoporosis has to do with bone density. Have a BMD test to determine if you do have steroid induced osteoporosis and, if so, a doctor can put you on a bisphosphonate or other osteo drug. Keep in mind that the drugs could bring added discomfort and/or side effects. Not knowing your age or whether or not you have entered menopause or have other risk factors, its hard to say what a doctor might do. Best thing, if you are concerned about osteoporosis is to make your doctor, and be prepared to pay for it, give you a DEXA scan which will give you an idea of your BMD. But you have to be your own advocate. Don't rely on doctors to be the #1 director of your healthcare. Source(s): Experience, pharma

Possibly. I suffered with mild arthritis in my hands and knees, but I now use a non chemical anti-inflammatory, which is brilliant. I also know how you can make your asthma an awful lot better. For more information contact me and I will be glad to give you much more info.
Get your GP TO refer you to an orthopaedic consultant, if you pain control is inadequate again get your GP to refer you to you're local hospital's pain team (if they provide that service).
Yes, i'm sure it can.
