Ovarian cancer, or what?

My friend went to the OB for bloating, bleeding etc. Dr. found a grapefruit-sized ovarian growth. Her blood test (but I don't know what kind of test) came back with a score of 105. Dr. said 60 is cancer-free and 150 cancerous. So has anyone had something like this that WASN'T cancer? Dr. didn't say what else it could be - just sent her to another doc, whom she can't get an appointment with for a month. She is worried...who wouldn't be? Any info would be great. Thanks.

i'm guessing the test was CA 125, a blood test for ovarian cancer. other things that could elevate it are a benign tumor or pelvic inflammatory disease. see the link below.

It kind of sound like your friend is full of crap, possibly looking for attention. If she had a grapefruit sized ovarian growth she would be dead because it would pop. It is possible to have this in the uterus because it is made to stretch, but as for the ovary .... not that big. Do some research on it, so you can catch her on it .. or see if it is possible..and I am wrong

She needs to get this checked much sooner than that. The cancer marker tests (sounds like thats what the blood test is) are not 100% conclusive. Things other than cancer can make the markers go up. But with a growth that big she is in danger of serious problems.

If she cannot get an appt with the doctor she was referred to for another month then she needs to call her OB and let them know that she needs to get in with someone sooner than that.

She can also call her insurance company for a referral to someone who can see her on an urgent basis.

Cancer is not something you want to wait a month to find out about.
