If my period stopped at the age of 29, will I get ovarian cancer by the age of 42?

My Gynogologist told me that when I turn 42 or 43 I most probably (more than 80% chance) will get ovarian cancer, if I don't regulate my period with birth control. But the problem is that I can't take birth control because of how it counter reacts with my other medications. So will I get ovarian cancer around the age of 42 to 43? My period stopped at 29 and now I am 36.

I would definitely get a second opinion from another gynecologist before making any radical decisions. I've never heard of getting ovarian cancer just because your period stopped at age 29. Women all over the world have this same problem and yet don't end up with cancer. Other reasons should definitely be ruled out as the cause of your problem. There are also different methods of birth control that you can use as well...like the patch, IUD, intramuscular injection that may not counteract with your other medications.

Have your current gynecologist recommend another physician for you to see and then make an appointment. Make sure your medical records are sent over to the clinic before your appointment so he/she can review your chart before seeing you. You might also want to bring in a complete list of medications that you currently take and any medications that you're allergic to. Good luck.

Find a new Gyno. Yours is a nutjob. There is no correlation between ovarian cancer and lack of period regulation. If your Gyno is right then 80% of women who lived in the pre-birth control pill era would have had ovarian cancer by age 42. Is he crazy. That supposition is not supported by any medical data.

You should discuss this in more detail with your gynecologist. Does your gynecologist know all the medications you are currently taking? If not, you should make that information known to her/him. Of course, you do have the option to get a second opinion about this.

I would see another doctor and find out if there is something else they can give you with the meds you are on. You are at high risk for osteoporosis with your periods being all messed up. They have a lot of different types of things to treat you with.

No, but for every year without your period and no medical/hormonal intervention, you lose more and more bone density. which IS a real concern you need to talk to your doctor about.
