Hi everyone. On thursday this week I am going into a preadmissions for ovarian cancer?

what I want to know is, I got a letter today from the hospital and it was saying I will be talking to anethists, doctors, nurses etc for 2-3 hours. Why do they need to spend that much time with me before I go in for surgery on the 16th of this month. what I have is very terminal it is ovaran cancer which was recently picked up a few weeks ago. It has taken me just over 2 years to finally get a diagnosis. so please if you an tell me why they want me in for that long on thursday? I am now getting worried.

Don't worry hun!!! I was extremely nervous before my very first preadmissions for bowel cancer.

Preadmissions is normal before surgery. I had one last week and the length you stay there depends on how long they take!! Last week I was there for just over an hour. At the one I had 6 months ago before my last surgery I was there for a couple of hours. They do it to ensure you are well enough for surgery. How long you stay simply depends on how long it takes for the doctors and nurses to see you and what tests they do.

You see the anaethist nurse who ensures your well enough for the anaestetic (can't spell!). You see a nurse who asks you all sorts of questions about your history. And you see a doctor who makes sure you're generally well. I think that's it.

They do different types of tests. They will take blood to make sure thats ok and to test your blood type. With the one I had last week they also did an ECG because of the chemo and took samples to check for MRSA because I have been in hospital in the past yr.

It is really nothing to worry about!!! Its procedure, like I said it takes so long because you see different people.

The doctors want to talk to you because they probably want to see how you are feeling. They also probably want to tell you what they are going to do. If you did not fill any paperwork out, maybe that is part of the reason. Don't be afraid or worried. Everything is going to be ok.

My heart goes out to you. I will pray for you.

Good luck and try to remain positive. Prayer is power!

Where do you live that it took so long??
There are blood tests for ovarian cancer.
It takes time to talk to everyone involved in your surgery to make sure everyone is on the same page, make sure you're in fact a good, healthy candidate for surgery, etc.
All these questions are normal.
Before surgery EKG, X-rays, pregnancy tests, these are all normal routine tests and even more if the hospital thinks it's needed.
I am really concerned it took 2 years.
In today's society, with all our technology it does not take 2 years to get a diagnosis of such a deadly cancer.
Blood work, thermal body scans, MRIs, etc. can all accurately diagnose ovarian cancer within days.
Best wishes with your surgery.
