When stage 4 ovarian cancer that spreads to liver, can chemo slow it down? |
My Mom has stage 4 ovarian cancer. It spread to her colon very fast and matted it all down. she had to have surgery to remove alot of it. She had to stop chemo for a little over a month but right now it has spread to spleen and two spots on liver. Can chemo still slow it down enough to get more years or is it months if it spreads to liver? Her CA125 is 600 after two chemos. But after the surgery, I don't know what it is.thanks. Yes, chemo can slow it down, but after a while somtimes it quits having any effect on the tumor(s). some people have gotten lucky enough that it has stopped tumor growth completely for a while. Alot of it depends on the grade of the cancer, or how sensitive it is to chemo This question is best directed to her oncologist. Even with an aggressive cancer, the right chemo can achieve quite good results. And while liver mets are of course alarming, do remember that they aren't the same thing as primary liver cancer. They often do respond to chemo. Stage 4 was bad.. But compare the time when she's under with chemo and the time when she's not if there's a difference. |
