Ovarian cancer? |
what are the symptoms... Some symptoms include: a feeling of "heaviness" in the pelvis, vague lower abdominal discomfort/pain, vaginal bleeding, weight gain or loss, abnormal menstrual cycles, unexplained back pain, increased abdominal girth, gastrointestinal symptoms (bloating, gas, lack of appetite, indigestion, etc.), excessive hair growth, increased urinary frequency. The problem is, these are also symptoms of many, many other conditions (including things that are fairly harmless). Which is what makes ovarian cancer very hard to detect in the early stages. If you are concerned you may have ovarian cancer, please see a doctor immediately. Source(s): I'm a medical librarian. Bleeding is very rarely a sign of ovarian cancer although it is one of cervical or uterine cancers. If it were, it would serve as an early warning. Excessive hair growth is also not a sign. The other signs, feeling of heaviness or fullness in the pelvis or bladder, vague intestinal upsets such as excessive gas or indigestion or changes in bowel habits, are symptoms of ovarian cancer though, as is lack of appetite, tiredness, more frequent urination. Add to that pain in one or both legs due to the presence and position of the tumor or tumors. For me, although I had many of these symptoms, they came and went. The most alarming and the one that sent me to my GYN was the increase in abdominal girth that made me look as if I were 5 months pregnant. That symptom, unlike the others, didn't come and go but remained constant and increased. If there is any doubt in your mind concerning your health and these symptoms, please schedule a visit with your GYN. Until medicine comes up with a concrete way of diagnosing ovarian cancer in the early stages when it is most treatable, women will continue to die from its effects. I am a two year ovarian cancer survivor. My cancer was not detected early. http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/... http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/... my aunty is going through stage 3 ovary cancer she had a swollen stomach and pain in her stomach. she was losing weight in her face and arms but her stomach stayed swollen so doc sent her to hospital. hope this helps |
