Having an ovarian tumor with the numbers being ca 125 ovarian cancer screening test, what does that mean?

CA-125 is an ovarian cancer antigen test but it is also positive in many cases of benign pelvic and abdominal disease, especially premenopausal. Fibroids, diverticulitis, liver disease, benign ovarian tumors, endometriosis and other nonmalignant sources can cause an elevation in CA-125. Normal values in most labs are 35 u/ml or less and only when the values are over 100 u/ml is there a great concern for malignancy. Benign causes can be associated with levels higher than 100 u/ml while malignancies, especially early Stage I ovarian cancer can be associated with normal or equivocal levels (35-100 u/ml). honestly i don't know but you should ask your doctor i personally think that everybody should develop a personal relationship with their doctor that way you will feel comfortable with asking important questions like this one so i suggest soon in the morning call and set up a counseling appointment with that particular doctor pleaseeee cancer is a major illness that can be treated if noticed in it's early stage
CA 125 is a simple blood test to detect elevated/decreased levels of the CA 125 protein. (CA = Cancer Antigen) The increase/decrease in the protein can help your Dr determine if a pelvic mass is benign or malignant. In Oct-Nov 2004 I went to a dr.to have a naval hernia repaired. The dr. felt my belly and said that there was something else there. They did the extensive blood work along with a c-scan. My CA-125 came back 75-85% range which means there may be something there or an infection in your system. They sent me to another dr. I was 48 at the time and wanted to have a hysterectomy due to very painful, very heavy periods. This dr. didn't even do a pelvic on me. He said that he didn't feel comfortable doing surgery with my CA level that high. He said if it was 20-35 which is normal he would have done it. He sent me to a gyn/onocologist. After his exam he insisted on doing my surgery right away. I went to him on Nov. 4th and on the 8th I had my surgery. He talked to me about there being 80% chance of lupus/cancer. When he did my surgery they found the start of endometriosis plus 1 large tumor which caused my hernia that weighed 5 lbs. After removing the first tumor another that wasn't detected in test popped up and was removed and it weighed 1 lb. my uterus was removed and weighed another 5 lbs. They did all my biopsies while I was under and I came up clear. I didn't have to have chemo or anything like that. My CA numbers were warning them that there was something there.
