What are my chances of getting ovarian cancer in the future if...? |
my grandmother (on my dad's side) died from ovarian cancer how much more of a risk do i have that someone else that doesn't have it in their family? what age should i get tested in? i'm only 14 now A family history of ovarian cancer is found in 10% to 20% of women with ovarian cancer. See more info in the link below. Source(s): http://www.webmd.com/ovarian-cancer/guid... It is usually a maternal conncetion like your mom or her mom..I can't say who will or who will not get ovarian cancer, but I do know there is a familial link. You are only 14, and the statistics are on your side for a long time. The symptoms of ovarian cancer are similar to pains from lots of disorders, so I don't want to scare you with all of that. Some one asked the other day in this forum, "what if you have a pain in your abdomen...what is it?" There is no way to answer that easily, as that can be the symptom of hundreds of things. Ovarian cancer is fairly rare, and there is a blood test you can have when you are older called CA125 which looks for those oncogenic genes. |
