Does anyone have the mutated BRCA2 gene? (hereditary breast and ovarian cancer)? |
All the women in my mom's family have the mutated BRCA2 gene and have all had breast and ovarian cancer in early 40s. My mom found out recently she has the gene and had a quicky hysterectomy. I was tested last week for the gene, but don't know results yet. Just wondering if anyone has this gene and what options they have weighed and chosen. I am only 22, but with an 85% chance of breast and ovarian cancer by my 40s (with good chance in my 30s following family history with this gene), I'm already considering drastic measures. I understand, my mom underwent prophalactic masts last summer. As well as got both of her ovaries removed. You could always consider freezing some of your eggs... and you can get your ovaries out.... Talk to your doctor about it... It may even covered by insurance.. Good luck toyou. I hope that all goes well. |
