What is CL125 and what does it mean in reagrds to ovarian cancer.? |
My grandmother was put through a series of tests after a recent illness. In the blood work she was told her CL 125 was elevated and that is a good indicator of ovarian cancer. I am a nurse and I have never heard of this CL 125. Can someone please help? It's actually CA-125. It is used to measure the proteins given off by certain cancers-ovarian included. Higher the proteins, higher the CA-125, higher chance of having cancer. Normal CA-125 counts for a regular person is around 10... Tell your grandmother to hang in there... Tell her to have it checked out right away. Ovarian cancer is a "silent killer"...there are no signs until it is too late. Source(s): I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer 9/19/03 and had to deal with this stuff. Luckily, they caught it in time...and by a fluke. It's CA-125, cancer antigen. It's a protein often found in the blood that is a sort of cancer marker. High levels indicate cancerous activity. Falling levels is one of the things they watch for to show that cancer treatments are effective. http://www.webmd.com/hw/ovarian_cancer/h... http://cpmcnet.columbia.edu/texts/gcps/g... The test is actually called a CA125. It's a blood test that can indicate possible ovarian cancer. My mother died from ovarian cancer and my primary care doctor runs this test on me once a year at the time of my annual physical. My understanding is that an abdominal ultrasound should also be performed along with this test for maximum benefit. My source is my own primary care doctor. |
